Pharmacological properties

Hepatoprotective effect – shows to protect against hepatic ischemic/reperfusion injury. Cardioprotective activity – shows to have protective effect against myocardial infarction damage; improves cardiac function, inhibits lipid peroxidation, increases activity of antioxidant enzymes in cardiac muscles, decreases oxidative stress and cardiac injury, maintains cell membrane integrity; normalises histopathological changes in heart after MI; causes improvement in precordial pain and dyspnea, restoration of normal ECG patterns, and significant reductions in cholesterol, triglycerides and total lipid levels; decreases heart rate and force of contraction (negative inotropic and chronotropic effect); exhibits vasodilatory action; improves exercise tolerance; findings suggests to be beneficial as supportive therapy for hypertension, arrhythmias, tachycardia, angina chest pain, chronic heart failure, coronary artery diseases, and myocardial infarction; decreases chances of development of atherosclerosis and thrombosis.
